Located near the famous Echo Point, Kundala Dam, and the Indo-Swiss Livestock Project, Mattupetty serves as a major central hub along the eastern tourist circuit of Munnar.
The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) operates a bustling boating center on the lake. Visitors can choose from high-speed motorboats, family pedal boats, or leisurely rowboats for scenic cruises across the reservoir.Walk along the crest of the massive concrete structure to take in panoramic views of the water on one side and the deep valley plunge on the other. Local operators near the banks offer horse rides along the edge of the lake, providing a fun experience for kids and families. The entrance pathway is lined with vibrant local stalls selling freshly brewed Kerala tea, spiced corn on the cob, raw mangoes, homemade local chocolates, and wooden handicrafts.
September to May: Offers clear, pleasant weather with calm waters and comfortable temperatures ideal for boating and outdoor sightseeing. Monsoon Season (June to August): The reservoir overflows and the surrounding hills become intensely green, though heavy rains may temporarily pause boat operations for safety.
